Biography

Dr. Christine Van Winkle's committed community-based research explores the role of festivals and events as attractions to communities. She combines practical experience with theory-based research to inform practice. Throughout her research career, she has worked with over 30 festivals and attractions both nationally and internationally. Her research interest lies in festival experiences, emergency management, and the roles these events play in community recovery. Dr. Van Winkle has published widely in tourism, leisure, and event management journals, books, conference proceedings, and reports. Currently, she serves as the Regional Editor for Event Management and as the Associate Editor for the International Journal of Event and Festival Management. Additionally, she is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research and the Leisure/Loisir Board of Directors for Winnipeg's Gas Station Arts Centre.
