Biography

Christine Wildsoet is a vision scientist and optometrist whose research focuses on eye growth, myopia (near-sightedness), and visual development. Known for her work on the biological mechanisms controlling ocular growth, she explores development strategies to prevent and control myopia. Her research integrates physiology, pharmacology, and optical science to study how environmental and genetic factors influence early eye growth and, subsequently, vision. Dr. Wildsoet's scholarship has informed global efforts to address the rising prevalence of myopia. As a Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry, she serves as the Director of the Clinical Research Center. Her research has been published in esteemed journals such as Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science and Experimental Eye Research. She is a Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and has received numerous awards from the American Optometric Foundation. At Berkeley, she teaches ocular systemic pharmacology to graduate OD students and refractive error development to Vision Science PhD graduate students, while being extensively involved in undergraduate education, offering seminars on vision-related topics and mentoring students in her research laboratory through UC Berkeley's Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program. Her student mentoring activities focus on vision science and translational eye research.
