Dr. Christobel Saunders

Biography

Professor Christobel Saunders AO, MB BS, FRCS, FRACS, FAAHMS, is an internationally recognized leader in cancer surgery and breast cancer research in Australia. With over 30 years of experience, she has made significant contributions to clinical trials, psychosocial studies, and translational health services research in surgical oncology. Professor Saunders commenced her career as a surgical trainee in the UK, later becoming a Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at University College Hospitals London before relocating to Australia in 2000. She has held numerous esteemed positions including Consultant Surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital and Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Western Australia. Her work has led to more than 200 published scientific papers and 18 book chapters. In addition to her clinical roles, she has been actively involved in the strategic management of cancer services in Western Australia, holding senior leadership positions in various health organizations. Professor Saunders has received multiple awards for her dedicated service and contributions to the field, including the Uccio Querci della Rovere Award and acknowledgment as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. She is deeply passionate about patient advocacy and ongoing medical research and has secured substantial funding for her projects, totaling over $54 million.
