Dr. Christoph Dartmann

Biography

Christoph Dartmann is a Professor of Medieval History at the University of Hamburg. He specializes in Medieval and Early Modern History, with a focus on the history of political communication and conflict cultures in the Middle Ages. He studied History, Catholic Theology, Latin, and Pedagogy in Münster and Bologna, completing his doctorate in 1998 under the supervision of Hagen Keller. Dartmann has worked as a research associate in various special research areas at the University of Münster, before taking on a junior professorship in Medieval History. He has held the position of a full professor since October 1, 2015, concentrating on the High and Late Middle Ages in the Mediterranean region. His research interests include the political, social, and cultural history of the Mediterranean during the medieval period, religious practices of the Middle Ages, and the modern reception and politics of medieval history.
