Christoph Frank graduated in History and Art History from the Courtauld Institute and the Warburg Institute of the University of London. He has held various academic positions, including being responsible for the Department of Art History at the Forschungszentrum Europäische Aufklärung in Potsdam from 1994 to 2006. Additionally, he served as an instructor at the Institute of Art History at the Technische Universität Berlin between 2000 and 2002. He was awarded a Max-Planck-Research-Fellowship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome in 2005. Frank has been involved with the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme in Paris, as well as Columbia University in New York. His research focuses on European art and architecture from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, examining the history of collecting in Germany and Russia, as well as the influence of agents and correspondents in art and architecture. He has a particular interest in the art theory of Denis Diderot and Friedrich Melchior Grimm.
