Biography

Christoph Meyer is a Full Professor of European and International Politics at King's College London. He co-convenes the Research Group on European Foreign Policy and is a member of the King's Centre for the Study of Intelligence. He studied political science and sociology at Hamburg, obtaining an MPhil in 1997 and a PhD in International Relations from the University of Cambridge in 2001. His academic career includes positions as a visiting doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, a Research Associate at the University of Cologne, and a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels. Since joining King’s College in 2007, he has served as the head of the newly established Department of European and International Studies and the Faculty’s Vice-Dean for Research. Elected a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences in 2020, he received the Starting Investigator Award from the European Research Council in 2008 for his project on early warning for conflict prevention. His research interests encompass Foreign Policy Analysis with a focus on the EU, strategic intelligence, and the politics of conflict prevention, defense, and security policy. Meyer has published extensively in high-impact academic journals and has authored several books, including 'Warning War' (CUP, 2020), which won a book prize from the International Studies Association in 2021. His latest co-edited book, published in October 2022, examines the lessons learned in European foreign policymaking.
