Biography

Christophe Ancey holds a PhD in engineering from Ecole Centrale de Paris, having completed his doctoral studies between 1994 and 1997 under the supervision of Pierre Evesque, focusing on rheology of granular flows. He began his career in 1998 as a researcher in the rheology team at Cemagref, specifically within the Erosion Protection team directed by Jean-Pierre Feuvrier, and became part of the Storm Erosion and Snow Avalanche Laboratory. Alongside his research, he co-founded Toraval, a consulting firm specializing in engineering and contracting within the avalanche sector in France. Ancey has served as a fluid mechanics professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) since 2004 and currently directs the Environmental Hydraulics Laboratory. He is also an associate editor for Water Resources Research, one of the leading journals in the field.
