Biography

Christophe Lovis is an Associate Professor at the University of Geneva, focusing on high-resolution spectroscopy in the context of exoplanet research. He is a specialist in high-precision radial velocity measurements, contributing to the development of state-of-the-art spectrographs such as HARPS, HARPS-N, and ESPRESSO. Lovis is the main developer of the data reduction pipelines for these instruments and has played a key role in the discovery and characterization of low-mass planets in the super-Earth and Neptune-mass range. He leads the transit follow-up working group of the ESPRESSO consortium and is actively involved in studying exoplanet atmospheres using high-resolution spectroscopy, a focus of his research project, NCCR PlanetS. His investigations into atmospheric chemistry and dynamics of exoplanets are enhanced through spectroscopic transit observations. Furthermore, he is the Principal Investigator of the RISTRETTO project, which aims to pioneer reflected-light spectroscopy of nearby exoplanets using an innovative instrument that combines extreme adaptive optics with high-resolution spectroscopy. Lovis also serves as the Swiss Co-Principal Investigator of the ELT-ANDES instrument, dedicated to detecting biosignatures in the atmospheres of terrestrial planets that orbit nearby stars.
