Dr. Christopher Bavitz

Biography

Christopher T. Bavitz is a Clinical Professor of Law and Vice Dean of Experiential Clinical Education at Harvard Law School, where he also serves as Managing Director of the Cyberlaw Clinic and Faculty Co-Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. His teaching focuses on legal strategy in the digital age and the intersection of intellectual property and media law, particularly in the context of music, entertainment, and technology. Bavitz oversees various projects in the Cyberlaw Clinic that address copyright, free speech, startup advising, and the use of technology to support access to justice. His research at the Berkman Klein Center explores regulatory and ethical issues related to intermediary liability and content moderation in the context of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Before his academic career, Bavitz was the Senior Director of Legal Affairs at EMI Music North America and worked as a litigation associate at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, specializing in copyright and trademark law. He holds a B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
