Biography

Christopher Bradfield is a Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, affiliated with the Comprehensive Diabetes Center. His research has significantly contributed to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms through which mammals respond to dioxins, a notorious class of environmental carcinogens. His laboratory's work in dioxin toxicology has been critical in the discovery of a superfamily of environmental sensor molecules, known as PAS proteins. In recent studies, Dr. Bradfield's lab has emphasized the application of knowledge regarding PAS proteins to elucidate various human disease states and to develop new classes of therapeutics aimed at influencing diverse endpoints such as angiogenesis and transplant success. His particular research interests also involve investigating the relationship between circadian rhythms and the endocrine functions of the pancreas, particularly in relation to glucose-insulin homeostasis and metabolic control.
