Biography

Professor Burd received his PhD from Northwestern University, where he conducted research under Professor Gideon Dreyfuss, focusing on pre-mRNA processing. After earning his doctoral degree in 1994, he completed postdoctoral studies with Professor Scott Emr at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of California, San Diego. In 1998, he began his independent research program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he investigated inter-organelle trafficking. In 2011, Burd moved to the Department of Cell Biology at Yale School of Medicine. He received a MERIT award from the National Institutes of Health in 2017 and was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2018 in recognition of his contributions to our understanding of organelle biogenesis pathways.
