Christopher E. Carr is an engineer and scientist with training in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, medical physics, and molecular biology. He joined the faculty of the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech as an assistant professor in fall 2020, and also holds a secondary appointment in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. He is a member of the Space Systems Design Lab (SSDL) within the School of Aerospace Engineering, where he serves as the principal investigator for science-related projects involving life detection instruments and astrobiology. His research interests encompass space instrument development and systems that seek and support life on Earth, including microbial adaptation and evolution, astrobiology, machine learning, and the origins of life. Carr has previously worked as a research scientist at MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, and as a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is also a Scott M. Johnson Fellow in the U.S.-Japan Leadership Program.
