Biography

Christopher Chen Li-Hsian studied Medical Natural Science at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University, graduating with Upper Physiology & Psychology in 1982. He completed his clinical training at the University of Oxford where he obtained his BMBCh in 1985. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and the Director of the Memory Aging and Cognition Centre at the National University Health System. Since returning to Singapore in 1995, Dr. Chen has developed a comprehensive multi-disciplinary dementia program, encouraging collaborative research in the Asia-Pacific region. His current focus is on creating a regional network for innovative trials addressing conditions prevalent in the area. Additionally, he established a Trials Unit dedicated to stroke and dementia, which has fostered wide international collaborations. Dr. Chen's major research interests include neurochemistry and molecular biology, particularly regarding the treatment of stroke and dementia. He has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers and has served on editorial boards and trial committees. He is known for his participation in academically-driven, industry-sponsored clinical trials, aiming to develop synergies between basic neuroscience research and the clinical insights into disease-specific laboratory research.
