Dr. Christopher Coker

Biography

Christopher Coker was the Director of IDEAS at the London School of Economics, focusing on foreign policy analysis. He published several influential works, including 'Rebooting Clausewitz' (Hurst, 2015) and 'Future War' (Polity, 2016). Coker's scholarship examined themes of war, security policy, and terrorism, contributing significantly to contemporary international relations discourse. He was an authority on the implications of civilizational states in the context of global security dynamics. Coker also held notable positions, including being a member of the Royal United Services Institute's council and a NATO Fellow. He engaged regularly with defense colleges in the UK, Rome, Singapore, and Tokyo. Coker served as a visiting fellow at various institutions, including the National Institute for Defense Studies in Tokyo and the Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore. He retired from his professorship at LSE in 2019 and continued to influence discussions on international security until his passing in September 2023.
