Biography

Professor Christopher Cunneen is an Honorary Professor in the School of Social Sciences, UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture, with a distinguished career as a leading criminologist. He holds a PhD and an MA from Sydney, as well as a Dip Ed and BA from UNSW. Returning to UNSW in 2014, he previously held the NewSouth Global Chair in Criminology from 2006 to 2010 and served as a Conjoint Professor in UNSW Law. Professor Cunneen’s expertise includes Indigenous law, juvenile justice, restorative justice, policing, and human rights. He has contributed significantly to numerous Australian Royal Commissions and Inquiries, playing a key role in issues affecting Indigenous communities. His academic interests are reflected in various national research studies, including projects focused on the civil and family law needs of Indigenous peoples. He has also been a member of several professional societies, including the European Society of Criminology and the American Society of Criminology, and has served on editorial advisory boards for reputable journals.
