Biography

Christopher Darvill is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at the University of Manchester, UK, with a focus on the interactions between climate change and glacier ice sheet activity over the past 2.5 million years. His research utilizes geomorphological techniques to analyze ancient ice sheets and glaciers, aiming to reconstruct their advance and retreat patterns. Darvill employs geochronological methods to investigate the rates of past ice activity in regions such as Patagonia, western North America, Antarctica, and Greenland. As part of the Quaternary Environments Geoarchaeology research group, he contributes to various projects that explore deglaciation processes and their environmental implications. Previously, he has held positions including Lecturer (2017-2022) and Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2016-2017) in Canada. He has a Doctor of Philosophy in Quaternary Science from the University of Durham and has served as an Honorary Research Fellow at the same institution. Darvill actively supervises postgraduate research students investigating critical topics related to ice loss and glacial history.
