Dr. Christopher Douglas

Biography

Christopher Douglas teaches literature, religion, Bible literature, and contemporary American fiction. His primary research interests include contemporary religious imagination in American literature, focusing on current issues of suffering and evil in notable contemporary American novels. Douglas employs historical Bible scholarship to comprehend how ancient genres and divine characters influence modern fiction and its political narratives. His work is recognized and supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada through an Insight Grant. Recent publications encompass an exploration of the Evangelical literary tradition and its moral foundations, as well as the dynamics of the apocalypse in Christian right literature. His recent research features critical analyses of literary figures such as Marilynne Robinson, revealing intersections of faith and sociopolitical contexts within her work.
