Biography

Christopher Kinsey is a member of King’s College London, Defence Studies Department, and teaches military officers from around the world. His research examines the role of the market in conflict, with particular focus on the role of private military security companies and the outsourcing of military logistics in international security. He has published widely, including books, book chapters, and articles in leading academic journals on this subject. He has presented papers to the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, UN, NATO, and the EU. His current research focuses on the regulation of private military security companies and the impact of contracted logistical support on military expeditionary operations, as well as mercenary operations in Africa during the Cold War. His notable works include "Mercenary: Instrument of State Coercion" (Oxford University Press, 2023) and "Corporate Soldiers in International Security" (Routledge, 2006). Christopher is also involved in teaching an MA Special Subject on Private Soldiers in International Security and supervises PhD students in related areas, including the role of contractors in war and post-conflict environments.
