Biography

Christopher Lehmann, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. His research primarily addresses the global crisis of antibiotic resistance, which has rapidly evolved since the discovery of antibiotics in the early to mid-20th century. Lehmann's work focuses on alternative strategies informed by an increasing understanding of the human microbiome. Over time, antibiotics disrupt the balance of beneficial bacteria in the microbiome, leading to the proliferation of drug-resistant pathogens. He is dedicated to developing approaches to restore and protect the beneficial components of the microbiome, aiming to prevent infections and reduce reliance on traditional antibiotics. Through his research, he seeks to provide powerful new avenues in the fight against antibiotic-resistant diseases.
