Biography

Christopher qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2000 and gained his PhD in 2003. His research group, established in 2005, focuses on using novel animal models to advance understanding of human cardiac disease, particularly the molecular mechanisms associated with heart failure and myocardial infarction, which is a leading cause of death globally. Christopher's research provides vital insights into how early perturbations in gene expression fundamentally affect adverse cardiac remodeling. His work not only expands the boundaries of basic scientific knowledge in cardiomyocyte biology but also demonstrates how therapeutic interventions applied early in disease can potentially change the entire trajectory of patient outcomes over time. He is the Principal Investigator on a British Heart Foundation program grant and has held several project grants funded by the Medical Research Council, British Heart Foundation, Heart Research UK, and the Medical Research Scotland Chief Scientist Office. Currently, he serves as the Executive Deputy Editor for Cardiovascular Research and has been a member of the editorial board for the British Journal of Pharmacology and Frontiers in Physiology. He also plays an important role in veterinary medicine as a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Council and an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney.
