Biography

Christopher Manes grew up in Louisiana and has lived in Texas for 18 years. He attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and earned his doctorate from the University of Texas at Dallas. As a lecturer, he teaches a variety of subjects including American literature, composition, and creative writing. He also writes poetry and engages in scholarly research. His research interests encompass American Literature, Composition and Rhetoric, LGBTQ+ Literature, Transnational Literatures, and Discourse Studies, with a special focus on the historical and cultural implications of literature. He has published works in early modern studies and contemporary gender studies, and has researched the intersections of rhetoric within 19th and 20th-century American literature and modernism. His notable accolades include the Summerlee Book Prize awarded by the Center for History and Culture at Lamar University in April 2021 for his work titled 'Naming Leper' published by LSU Press.
