Associate Professor Christopher Marquis is a trained biochemical engineer whose research focuses on protein biotechnology and bio-nanotechnology interfaces. His current interdisciplinary projects include the development of recombinant enzymes for organohalide bioremediation, innovative bioprocesses for novel protein therapeutics, therapeutic bacteriophage production, and plasmid DNA production for recombinant spider silk generation. He serves as the Academic Director of the Recombinant Products Facility at UNSW, which supports research in fermentation, cell culture, and protein production optimization. Under his leadership, the facility not only aids the UNSW research community but also provides contract services to the industry. He has been instrumental in managing the facility's capacity of 20L for fermentation and a variety of downstream processing capabilities. Furthermore, A/Prof Marquis has been teaching since 1994, holding positions as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer before being promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. He has supervised multiple PhD and Honours students within the Biotechnology Program.
