Dr. Christopher Mauger

Biography

Christopher M. Mauger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. He was born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, where a passion for science was sparked during childhood visits to the Franklin Institute. Dr. Mauger has a strong background in experimental particle physics, focusing on neutrino interaction physics, crucial for neutrino oscillation studies. He has been a graduate student and postdoctoral scholar, contributing to significant experiments such as Kamioka KEK's Super-Kamiokande, K2K, and KamLAND. As a staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory, he was among the founding members of LBNE, now known as DUNE. Since joining Penn in 2016, Dr. Mauger has led the CAPTAIN program and is actively engaged in applied neutrino research, specifically through the WATCHMAN program. His research interests include measuring neutrino properties in oscillation experiments, determining neutrino mass hierarchy, and exploring leptonic CP violation, which are critical components of long-baseline neutrino physics programs like T2K and DUNE. Dr. Mauger's work also addresses the application of neutrinos in nuclear non-proliferation and aims to leverage particle physics techniques to solve broader scientific problems.
