Biography

Christopher M. Mauger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. He hails from Philadelphia and was raised near the Delaware River in New Jersey. His early passion for science was ignited by the engaging demonstrations at the Franklin Institute. After completing his graduate studies and working as a postdoctoral scholar, he contributed to significant experiments such as Kamioka KEK Super-Kamiokande, K2K, and KamLAND, focusing on neutrino interaction physics essential for neutrino oscillation studies. Mauger was also a staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory and was among the founding members of the Long Baseline Neutrino Experiment, known as DUNE. Since joining the University of Pennsylvania in 2016, he has focused on applied neutrino research within the WATCHMAN program. His current research interests involve measuring neutrino properties and studying neutrino mass hierarchy and leptonic CP violation. He leads the CAPTAIN program and collaborates on the Minerva Experiment. His work supports long-baseline neutrino physics programs, such as T2K and DUNE, and he explores the applications of neutrinos towards nuclear non-proliferation while applying fundamental particle physics techniques to broader challenges.
