Biography

Chris McGowan is a General Partner at CJM Ventures, a Chicago-based growth equity private investment firm. He has over 31 years of experience in private equity, beginning his career at AEA Investors in New York City after earning an undergraduate degree in theoretical mathematics from Columbia University. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School and worked at Madison Dearborn Partners, where he co-headed the basic industries practice, overseeing more than $2 billion in equity investments focused on global buyouts and growth equity across various sectors, including industrial, consumer, and energy. McGowan has served on the Board of the former Madison Dearborn portfolio company Boise Cascade and has been heavily involved in angel investing, holding positions at various other companies and investment boards. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business since 2012, teaching courses in entrepreneurship, private equity, and venture capital. He is also actively engaged in mentoring and has chaired numerous advisory boards related to venture capital and investment.
