Biography

Chris Moraes is an Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia and at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nanoengineering and a PhD in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He has received prestigious NSERC and Howard Alper Banting Postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Michigan’s Biointerfaces Institute. His research focuses on advanced cellular microenvironments, with a particular interest in the role that microenvironmental biomechanical forces play in driving disease development. Chris has expertise in microfabricated cell culture systems, biomaterials design, advanced imaging technologies, and computational modeling. He has also served as the Ombudsperson for Students at McGill University and as Program Director for Shad Canada’s summer outreach program across campuses in the country. His recent honors include the McGill Principal’s Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researcher and an Excellence in Teaching Award.
