Dr. Christopher Naugler

Biography

Christopher Naugler is a Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, specializing in the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Family Medicine, and Community Health Sciences. He completed his medical training at Dalhousie University, followed by Family Medicine training at the University of Western Ontario, obtaining certifications in 1999 and 2010, respectively. He also has specialized training in General Pathology, earning the FRCPC designation in 2009. Currently, Dr. Naugler serves as the Department Head of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and as the Medical Director for Calgary Laboratory Services, which conducts approximately 30 million tests annually. With a considerable portfolio of 135 peer-reviewed publications and significant grant funding totaling approximately $9 million, he plays a key role as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in numerous projects. His research interests are focused on laboratory test appropriateness, clinical epidemiology, and pathology informatics, among others. He received the 2013 Watanabe Distinguished Achievement Award for Overall Excellence from the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine. His ongoing research explores the geographic variation of disease incidence and laboratory test utilization, leveraging big data approaches to enhance individual treatment strategies in healthcare.
