Dr. Christopher Pope

Biography

Christopher Pope is a Distinguished Professor and Stephen Hawking Chair in Fundamental Physics at Texas A&M University. His research interests encompass a wide array of topics within theoretical high-energy particle physics, focusing on the unification of fundamental interactions and the nature of gravity. His work delves into general relativity, quantum gravity, supergravity, and superstring theories, as well as conformal field theory and extended higher-spin theories. He applies advanced concepts from differential geometry and topology to further explore these areas. Pope earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge in 1975, followed by a Master of Arts in 1979 and a Doctorate in 1980. He initially served as a Research Fellow at St. John's College, Cambridge from 1979 to 1982, before undertaking postdoctoral positions at Imperial College London. Pope relocated to the University of Southern California in 1987 and joined Texas A&M University in 1988, where he continues to contribute significantly to the field of fundamental physics.
