Biography

Christopher Potter is a Professor in the Solomon H. Snyder Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He serves as the Co-Director of the Neuroscience Training Program. His research focuses on the olfactory system of mosquitoes, particularly the Anopheles gambiae species, known for its role in malaria transmission. The lab is investigating how these insects use their sense of smell to locate human hosts and distinguish between humans and animals. Recent projects include the development of new strains of mosquitoes to explore their olfactory responses in living settings, as well as dynamic regulation of odorant receptors affecting mosquito behavior. Potter aims to contribute to the understanding of insect olfaction and develop methods to manipulate mosquito behavior to better control their populations. He welcomes motivated graduate students to join his lab.
