Christopher H. Schroeder is the Charles S. Murphy Professor Emeritus at Duke University School of Law, where he returned to the faculty in December 2012 after serving as the Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Policy at the United States Department of Justice. In this role, he supervised the evaluation of President Obama’s nominees to the federal judiciary and provided policy advice to the Attorney General on various law enforcement and national security issues. He also served as the acting Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel, where he was responsible for providing legal advice to the Attorney General on a broad range of issues, including separation of powers, constitutional matters, statutory interpretation, and administrative law. Prior to his tenure at the Department of Justice, Schroeder was the chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. At Duke Law School, he has taught courses on Federal Policymaking and co-taught a seminar on presidential powers. He is married to Kate Bartlett, who is the Dean of Duke Law School.
