Biography

Christopher H. Schroeder is a Charles S. Murphy Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Duke Law School. He returned to the faculty after years of service in the U.S. Department of Justice as Assistant Attorney General, where he supervised the evaluation of President Obama’s nominees to the federal judiciary and provided policy advice to the Attorney General on various legal matters involving law enforcement and national security. Schroeder has also served as acting Assistant Attorney General of the Office of Legal Counsel, providing legal advice on constitutional issues, separation of powers, statutory interpretation, and administrative law. He has notably chief counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee and is currently teaching courses on Federal Policymaking and Presidential Powers. He has authored and co-authored several publications addressing a range of legal topics, including environmental regulation, constitutional law, and the dynamics of presidential power.
