Biography

Christopher Schuh is the POSCO Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also serves as the Dean of the McCormick School of Engineering and the John G. Searle Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. Schuh earned a Bachelor of Science degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1997 and completed his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in 2001. Following his doctorate, he became an Ernest O. Lawrence postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. In 2002, he joined the faculty at MIT. Schuh co-founded metallurgical companies, including Xtalic, which commercialized the Schuh Group process for producing metallic coatings used in electrical connectors globally. He also co-founded Desktop Metal, a startup focused on additive manufacturing that develops metal 3-D printers and Foundation Alloy, a platform for metal part production.
