Biography

Christopher Sheil is a social historian with expertise in labor history and social policy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of New South Wales and a PhD from the University of Wollongong. Sheil has served as an Adjunct Professor of Social Policy at Boston University’s Sydney Academic Centre and a member of the Senior Executive Service in the New South Wales Cabinet Office. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been a senior policy official for six governments and has participated in numerous national and state government committees focused on social and economic policy. His publications include over 200 academic and government records, and he is a member of the Australian Society of Authors. Sheil's research interests currently revolve around the historical aspects of Australian politics and policy, maritime labor, and economic inequality, with several publications in leading journals and contributions to various government reports. His key works include 'Globalisation: Australian Impacts' and 'Water’s Fall: Running Risks of Economic Rationalism', which was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Award. He has been an executive member of the Evatt Foundation for 17 years and served as its President for 13 years.
