Biography

Dr. Christopher Shen is an Adjunct Professor at Stanford School of Medicine and the Director of Global Programs at the Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign. He has been a part of the Stanford community since 1991, having completed degrees in Biological Sciences, Biomechanical Engineering, Business, and Medicine. Since 2001, Dr. Shen has been dedicated to teaching both graduate and undergraduate students the foundational concepts of design-thinking and clinical immersion, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary experiential education. Dr. Shen has played a critical role in establishing and managing collaborations across various regions, including leading the Singapore Stanford Biodesign Program since its inception in 2010. This program focuses on training the next generation of medical technology innovators in the Pacific Rim, addressing the unique medical needs of the region. Additionally, Dr. Shen has a notable background in medical innovation as a former Senior Design Engineer at Guidant Neurovascular, where he was a principal inventor of the stentriever devices for ischemic stroke. He holds twelve patents in the fields of interventional neuroradiology and interventional cardiology and has been recognized as a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow.
