Biography

Christopher Sherrin joined the faculty of Western Law in 2006. His primary areas of interest include criminal law, criminal procedure, evidence, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, with a particular focus on the study of wrongful convictions and the reliability of the criminal justice process. Prior to his academic career, he practiced as defense counsel in a Toronto law firm and served as a part-time Assistant Crown Attorney. He has contributed as a consultant researcher for various commissions of inquiry and has directed the Innocence Project at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. Additionally, he has served as a member of the local Legal Aid Ontario Area Committee and has acted as an editor for the Annotated Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is actively involved in judicial continuing legal education and was appointed Associate Dean (Academic) in June 2017. His publications reflect his interests, including ”Police Investigative Technique Privilege” and various analyses of significant criminal law cases and Charter issues.
