Dr. Christopher Shields

Biography

Christopher Shields is a distinguished professor at the University of California, San Diego, where he holds the Henry E. Allison Professorship in the Department of Philosophy. He has also served as an Honorary Research Fellow at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. Shields is noted for his expertise in Classical Philosophy, having previously held positions such as the Shuster Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame and the Tang Chun-I Visiting Professorship at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His teaching experience includes tenure at the University of Colorado at Boulder and visiting professorships at prestigious institutions like Cornell University, Stanford University, Yale University, and the University of Arizona. He is the author of several influential works including "Order Multiplicity: Homonymy in the Philosophy of Aristotle" and "Fractured Goodness: Aristotle’s Response to Plato’s Form of the Good." Furthermore, he has edited significant collections like the "Blackwell Guide to Ancient Philosophy" and the "Oxford Handbook of Aristotle."
