Christopher W. Smelser received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Toronto in 1998, an M.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Waterloo in 2001, and a Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of Ottawa in 2007. Dr. Smelser served as a Research Scientist at the Communications Research Centre in Ottawa from 2001 to 2012. In 2012, he joined the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University, where he currently coordinates the Photonics and Laser Technology Program in the School of Information Technology. His research interests encompass laser-assisted fabrication of photonic components, hybrid optical devices, and applications of optical sensors.
