Biography

Chris Smith is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen's University. He served as the Chair of the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) from 2013 to 2023. Smith has been the Deputy Head of the Department of Medicine from 2020 until his appointment as Head on July 1, 2023. He graduated from University College London in 1990 and completed his postgraduate clinical training in the UK. Smith then completed additional training at the University of Illinois in Chicago, USA. Prior to joining Queen's University in 2008, he worked for ten years as an Attending Physician at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was also the program director for the core internal medicine training program from 2008 to 2015, and his clinical work includes roles in inpatient units at Kingston Health Sciences Centre and the GIM consult and ambulatory clinics, as well as a perioperative clinic. Smith has a strong interest in medical education and has held numerous administrative and educational positions at the University.
