Biography

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Christopher Snook began his university studies at the University of King's College, completing his undergraduate degree in English Contemporary Studies. He pursued graduate degrees in English, specializing in Romanticism and Religion, and Theology, where he explored the Origenist inheritance of the literary structure of St. Antony the Great's ascetic writings. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Classics at Dalhousie University, also teaching courses related to Arabic and Religious Studies. His teaching career began as a Fellow (and occasional Associate Director) in the Foundation Year Program at King’s College, where he taught challenging texts in history, literature, philosophy, and science. Aside from his academic pursuits, Snook enjoys watching reruns of 'Gilmore Girls,' cooking to tunes from his favorite band (Fire Saga), and reluctantly working in his yard. His research focuses on the persistence of religion in early 20th century literary modernism, particularly the 'Catholic turn' in poetry and novels, with significant figures including T.S. Eliot, Evelyn Waugh, and Flannery O'Connor. He has widely published on the intersection of history and theology and continues to produce poetry, with his collection 'Tantramar Vespers' released by Frog Hollow Books in 2018.
