Dr. Christopher Spencer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen's University. His research interests are primarily in the field of tectonochemistry, where he combines fieldwork with igneous petrology, geochemistry, and geochronology to understand orogenic processes and secular changes in the continental crust. He is particularly focused on utilizing stable and radiogenic isotopes, together with igneous geochemistry, to trace modern tectonic processes and track the oxidation of the atmosphere as reflected in the geologic record. Dr. Spencer supervises students in the Tectonochemistry Research Group at Queen's University and is actively recruiting students, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups in STEM. His current research projects include fieldwork in locations such as the Oman ophiolite, North American Cordillera, Marianas, Northern Quebec, Southern Ontario, and Eastern Brazil, as well as lab-based projects involving samples from Northwest Russia, Western Australia, and South Africa.
