Biography

Christopher Jon Sprigman is the Murray Kathleen Bring Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy at NYU School of Law. He joined NYU School of Law in 2013, having previously taught at the University of Virginia School of Law. His research encompasses areas such as antitrust, copyright, intellectual property, and comparative constitutional law, with a focus on how legal rules affect innovation and the deployment of new technologies. Sprigman's influential work challenges conventional wisdom regarding intellectual property rights and has played a significant role in shaping contemporary understanding of copyright and trademark law. He holds a JD with honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he graduated in 1993, and he has also clerked for Judge Stephen Reinhardt at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice Lourens H. W. Ackermann at the Constitutional Court of South Africa. In 2015, he was named a Reporter for the American Law Institute's Restatement of Copyright. Sprigman teaches courses including Advanced Copyright Seminar, Copyright Law, and Innovation IP Seminar, which explore various aspects of copyright law and its implications in today's digital age.
