Professor Dr. Christopher Vermillion

Biography

Christopher Vermillion is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2009 and holds Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering and dual Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, all from the same university. His research interests encompass optimal control design, optimization tools, and the addressing of cutting-edge issues in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Specifically, he focuses on the development of tethered systems that harness wind and marine hydrokinetic energy, and he is also engaged in the creation of persistent mission planning algorithms for renewably powered robotic networks. Further, he is exploring the use of connected autonomous vehicles to achieve substantial fuel economy improvements over conventional vehicles.
