Dr. Christopher Walker

Biography

Chris Walker is a professor specializing in dance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he serves as the founding artistic director of the Wave program and is affiliated with the Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives. Walker has a rich background as a choreographer and director, having worked with notable artists and institutions such as the National Dance Theatre Company Jamaica and the Public Theatre in New York City. His works often investigate the intersection of contemporary dance and theater, drawing upon visual performance cultures from the African Diaspora. He is recognized for his contributions as a senior choreographer and has presented his concert dance works across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Walker has received multiple grants and honors for his creative research, including the Romnes Fellowship, which supported his research on homophobia within the African Diaspora. He was also named a Faculty Fellow as part of the School of Education’s Impact 2030 initiative. His academic credentials include an MFA in Dance from the State University of New York - College Brockport, where he also obtained his BFA in Dance and a Professional Diploma in Dance Theatre Production.
