Christopher Whipple is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Penn State Harrisburg. He is a trained community psychologist who received his Ph.D. in Community Psychology from DePaul University. His current research interests utilize basic and applied research to develop, implement, and evaluate community-based interventions that inform intervention development targets. His broad research aim is to support marginalized populations. Specifically, he focuses on community violence exposure and suicidal ideation among Black and African American adolescents, reducing the impact of substance use disorder-related constructs on individuals and communities, and developing, implementing, and evaluating culturally and contextually relevant interventions for marginalized populations. Dr. Whipple is currently a co-investigator on an NIH-funded grant to test the effectiveness of a culturally relevant suicide prevention program for African American high school students, as well as a state-funded grant designed to reduce stigma related to substance use disorders in Pennsylvania.
