Biography

Professor Christopher Whitton has been integral to the Faculty of Classics at Cambridge since 2007, where he not only teaches but also serves as a Fellow of Emmanuel College. His academic journey began at St John's College, Cambridge, culminating in extensive research at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and the Freie Universität Berlin. His primary focus lies in Latin literature from the early Roman Empire, with a particular emphasis on the works of Pliny the Younger and Tacitus. His current research projects include a commentary on Tacitus' 'Annals' 14 and a monograph provisionally titled 'Tacitus Revoiced: Reading Histories of Pliny the Younger', which examines associative intratextuality in Tacitus's writings. He has supervised a variety of postgraduate dissertations, covering an extensive array of topics from authors such as Homer to Wieland, and welcomes inquiries from potential students interested in imperial Latin prose from the Trajanic period.
