Biography

Christos Markides was born in Athens, Greece, and relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa at the age of seven before moving to Limassol, Cyprus. He completed his secondary education in 1995 and fulfilled his compulsory military service until 1997. Markides then pursued a four-year Master of Engineering degree in Engineering at the University of Cambridge, followed by a PhD in Energy Technologies at the same institution, which he completed in 2005. After briefly working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Cambridge, he co-founded a spin-out company focused on thermally powered fluid pumping technology, serving as Technical Director. He joined Imperial College London in late 2008 as a Lecturer in Clean Energy Processes, advancing to Professor by 2018. Markides leads the Clean Energy Processes Laboratory and coordinates the Experimental Multiphase Flow Laboratory at Imperial, which is one of the largest experimental spaces in the university.
