Dr. Chu Young Kim

Biography

Chu-Young Kim is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology, University of Illinois. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.S.E. in Bioengineering from the same institution, and a B.A. in Chemistry from Cornell University. Kim's research focuses on the architecture of modular polyketide synthases (PKS), which are enzymes found in various organisms that synthesize compounds. His work includes utilizing supercomputing to understand the crystal structures of these enzymes, uncovering the mechanisms behind their reaction activities, particularly related to the antibiotic monensin. As a notable professor in biochemistry, he contributes to both research and teaching at the university, helping to advance the field and mentor the next generation of scientists.
