Biography

Chuan He is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1994, followed by a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000. After completing a Damon-Runyon postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University from 2000 to 2002, he joined the University of Chicago as an Assistant Professor, becoming an Associate Professor in 2008 and a full Professor in 2010. He was named the John T. Wilson Distinguished Service Professor in 2014. His research focuses on chemical biology, RNA biology, and epigenetics, specifically studying reversible RNA and DNA methylation and their regulatory roles in biological processes. His research group has discovered RNA demethylases that significantly influence gene expression regulation. He is also a member of the Cancer Research Center at the University of Chicago.
