Biography

Chuang-Sheng (Walter) Yang is a Research Engineer II and Instructor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He completed his doctoral degree at Georgia Tech in December 2006 and has also obtained Master's degrees in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. His research interests focus on several areas including seismic design behavior of buildings and bridges, dynamic structural tests, structural control, smart materials in structures, and applications of reliability and probabilistic methods. He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, and the American Institute of Steel Construction. Dr. Yang is actively pursuing patents for the development of devices such as Smart Hybrid Braces, Rotary Friction Dampers, Rotary Metallic Dampers, and Smart Hybrid Rotary Dampers.
