Biography

Chul S. Hyun earned a B.S. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.D. from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Georgetown University Medical Center, followed by a Gastroenterology and Liver Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine. He also holds a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Rochester and an MPH from Columbia University. Dr. Hyun has served as a faculty member in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Weill Cornell Medical College from 1996 to 2018, and has held numerous leadership roles. He is the inaugural Director of the Gastric Cancer Prevention Screening Program at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Hyun’s work focuses on reducing health disparities in gastric cancer prevention through innovative, community-centered approaches, particularly aimed at high-risk populations. He has published research focusing on epidemiology, risk stratification, provider education, and community-based implementation studies. Passionate about mentorship, he is dedicated to training the next generation of clinician-researchers. Outside of his academic pursuits, Dr. Hyun is a marathon enthusiast and author of a memoir chronicling his journey from South Korea to the global stage.
